Religious Reporter Finds Faith Tested by Job

“WHEN Times editors assigned me to the religion beat, I believed God had answered my prayers.

As a serious Christian, I had cringed at some of the coverage in the mainstream media. Faith frequently was treated like a circus, even a freak show.

I wanted to report objectively and respectfully about how belief shapes people’s lives. Along the way, I believed, my own faith would grow deeper and sturdier.

But during the eight years I covered religion, something very different happened.” (cont’d)

Wow….I’d have to say that that is a very profound article.
I believe myself to be Agnostic - meaning i’m just a touch too spiritual to be atheist.
I think his friend made a good point though “Keep your eyes on the person nailed to the cross, not the priests behind the altar.” The ideas often (not always….especially when the interpretation is pretty skewed) presented by religion are a great ideas. Yes, someone out there loves you when you think no one does. Try to love everyone else in the world while you’re at it and you’ll find your time on earth a little more bearable. Unfortunately, it’s people that ruin it in every way possible. People read too much into it, people hide behind it when they know they’re wrong, people would rather deal with a person on a pedestal than recognize that we are ALL human and no amount of spirituality can hide the fact that some humans are amoral.
I think i said that right..i’m not sure.
